High School Voter registration Information

All eligible students can register with a paper application; however, only students with a Virginia driver’s license, learner’s permit, or Virginia DMV-issued ID can register online. Students also need their Social Security number.

Students can register to vote, if they:

- Are citizens of the United States.

- Are Virginia residents.

- Will be 18 by November 7, 2023.

Students who are 16 or 17 can pre-register, but they cannot vote until they are 18 on or before a November general election date.

Partner with the League of Women Voters to provide a voter registration event at your school. There are three options.

Option 1: Classroom Presentations

These classroom presentations, facilitated by LWVFA volunteers, provide information about voting and assist students to complete paper voter registration applications.

Option 2: Table Registration

A table for voter registration is set up in a convenient location and time, such as a hallway close to the cafeteria during lunch time or during a large gathering of students. LWVFA volunteers assist students to complete paper voter registration forms.

Option 3: Virtual Presentations

These presentations, facilitated by LWVFA volunteers, provide information about voting and assist students to complete paper voter registration applications using the League’s Zoom account. Most often multiple classes are addressed at the same time.

Contact Alice Reilly (alice.reilly@lwv-fairfax.org) for information and to schedule.

Students fluent in Spanish, Korean, and Vietnamese are also encouraged to apply. For information about the page program, click here.

Students who are 18 on or before Election Day and are registered to vote are also eligible to serve as Election Officers. For information, click here.
