LWV Fairfax Social Media Interns

Hi, my name is Aisha Ismael. I am a Senior at Annandale High School and joined the League of Women Voters in July of 2020. I decided to become a Social Media Intern for the League to increase awareness and education about voting issues/topics. The lack of voting in many key demographics can often be explained by a lack of awareness as opposed to interest. It's not that people don't want to vote, but that they don't know the technicalities that can garner their votes invalid, the topics discussed on the ballot, or some other tidbit of knowledge. I believe the League is on the forefront and has done so much in rectifying this issue and being an Intern allows me to be apart of that mission.

Hi! My name is Beza Asefa, and I am a senior at Hayfield Secondary. I wanted to be an intern for the LWV to engage myself more in my community while helping others do the same. I hope to not only educate and guide others through the voting process and its importance, but to also expand my own knowledge and skill set as well. I feel as though it is crucial to stay informed on relevant issues and use the resources available to you, to the best of your abilities in order to become a proactive member in your community.

Hi, my name is Bianca Gonzalez! I'm a senior at Lake Braddock Secondary School. As an intern for the LWV, I would like to reach those who may not have much information about the voting process or don't know about the opportunities they have to vote and the change they can contribute to by voting. This internship is a great opportunity to help others while also getting more involved in my community and play a part in the voting process while I can't actually vote yet.

Hi! My name is Yohanna Belay and I am a junior at Hayfield Secondary school. I joined LWV mainly to educate others and myself on the voting process. Because so many people don’t know how or where to vote, they miss the chance to get their voices heard. Many people also believe that one vote won’t count but has a much more significant effect. As a social media intern, I hope to spread information that will allow voters of all ages to get their voices heard.

Hi, my name is Nadiah Aldaghlas. I am a Senior at Justice high school and joined the League of Women Voters in the summer right before my sophomore year of high school. I decided to become a Social Media Intern for the League to inform people on voting issues and to educate people on how to vote. A lack of knowledge and awareness can often explain the lack of voting in many parts of our country instead of voting. People do want to vote, but they need to know how to vote to get counted. I believe the League has always been there to make voting more accessible and easier to navigate. I want to be part of their goal to get everyone to vote because I believe that every vote counts.

Our Projects

In 2020 we focused on Instagram and Twitter posts to educate young voters about voter registration and elections. We highlighted important days for Virginia citizens, and encouraged all youth to use their voice at the polls.

Our team produced podcasts and created posters for the LWV convention. We supported the League’s voter registration drives in the schools. And we participated in the roundtable with Senator Tim Kaine.

Our 2021 plans include social media posts, website updates, candidate interviews and forums, high school voter registration drives, blog posts, YouTube videos, and podcasts. We hope to travel to Richmond to observe and participate in the lobbying process.

In-Person Events

In-person events were a challenge in 2021. Our interns participated in the Roundtable discussion with Senator Tim Kaine and held voter registration drives at Justice and McLean High Schools.
