Why You Should Care About Childcare

Did you know:

  • Virginia meets only 57 percent of the demand for child care with families in several counties having no option for a childcare provider.

  • A childcare educator makes an average of $10.96 per hour which is lower than most fast-food jobs.

  • A woman with two children earning the state median wage can end up paying 30 percent of her income in child care costs.

LWVFA members will review and discuss the Virginia Child Care Consensus Study at their unit meetings this month to reach consensus on this important subject so that the LWVFA board can make recommendations to the LWV-VA board to adopt or not adopt a position. The League can only advocate on issues for which we have a position. The matter will be voted on at the League state convention in June 2023.

If you are a member of the League of Women Voters of the Fairfax Area and would like to participate in the process of consensus, please review the study, complete the consensus question form, and send to judy.helein@lwv-fairfax.org by October 31, 2022.
