The League of Women Voters acts or advocates when there is a supporting League position. These positions are used to influence public policy. We often advocate by providing testimony or letters to legislators.

2024 Testimony to the Fairfax Delegation to the General Assembly

The priority initiatives in the LWVFA’s 2024 legislative agenda includes: legislation to promote equitable and efficient participation in elections including automatic restoration of voting rights, full support of education for all children, access to child care, transportation services, affordable housing, and gun violence prevention. 2023 Testimony to the Fairfax Delegation to the General Assembly

Following are the LWVFA’s 2023 priority initiatives for the 2023 legislative session: Legislation that promotes equitable and efficient participation in elections; appropriate, full funding for K-12 public education for all Virginia students; measures that address climate challenges and support a transition to cleaner sustainable energy sources; funds and action to increase the availability of affordable housing and retention of existing local land use authority; and funds for public safety and mental health services.  

 Overall, LWVFA urges our legislators to enact legislation with sufficient supporting resources that improves the quality of life for all Virginians.  Democracy and our freedoms cannot be sustained unless elections are fair, and we endorse the fight for laws that ensure fair and equitable access to voting.
