A citizen of the United States.
At least 18 years of age by the next November general election.
A resident of Virginia.
Have had your rights restored if you have been convicted of a felony.
Have had capacity restored if you have ever been declared mentally incapacitated in a Circuit Court.

What is the deadline to register to vote?
You may register to vote year-round except during the 22 days prior to a General or Primary election, 13 days prior to a Special election, or 7 days prior to a Special election called by the Governor.
What information do I need?
You need your Social Security number, date of birth, gender, full legal name, and address (unless homeless). If you are registering online, you need the number on your card from the VA DMV.

No, Virginia does not register voters by political party.
How will I know that my application has been approved?
After you submit your application, you should receive a postcard from the Virginia Department of Elections within 30 days. The postcard will indicate your voting district, the name of your precinct, and your polling place. Be sure to check that your name and address are listed correctly. If you have not received a postcard, call the Fairfax County Office of Elections at 703-222-0776 by early October when voter registration closes, if you plan to vote in the November election.
Do I have to register again if I move or change my name?
To remain a qualified registered voter, the law requires you to notify your local voter registration office of any change in your name or address.
